religion of the sword

Qur’an 9:73: “…make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. Hell shall be their home: an evil fate.”
Recently, I saw the movie United 93, and I will never view Islam the same. I also will never be the same.
In this article, I want to treat Islam with all due respect. But I’m troubled by disturbing words from the Qur’an like the verse above. Isn’t Islamic terrorism as we witnessed on 9/11 and as we’ve seen around the world inspired by such verses from the Qur’an?
If Islam is committed to hostile verses like that above, wouldn’t a reasonable person conclude that Islam poses a threat to our nation?
A look at Islamic intent
What follows is not a viewpoint you’re going to hear in the mainstream media but you should. I’ve heard all sorts of Muslim scholars try to dilute or dismiss the verses in the Qur’an that explicitly incite violence against all non-Muslims, but these verses are what they are, and I’ve listed some of them throughout this article.
I voted and campaigned for President Bush and I still support him. I like the man. He’s a man’s man who doesn’t cave in because of public opinion. However, he’s also a mortal man with mortal failings. How can he euphemistically call Islam “a noble faith” or “a great religion,” under the circumstances? A noble religion would not justify flying planes into buildings with the intent of killing thousands of innocent civilians. By most accounts, 2,986 innocent Americans died horrible deaths on 9/11. Many jumped to their deaths to avoid being burned alive. I’ll never forget the video of one couple holding hands as they leapt to their deaths.
Islam is, was, and always will be the “Religion of the Sword.” If it’s not, then Muslims around the world need to prove it to the rest of us by their peaceful actions. But for our part, we need to understand that just as appeasement did not work in 1939 with the Nazis, it won’t work now with an even more determined threat.
By the Qur’an’s own words, Islam is determined to be the antithesis of the West! I would frame the heart of the controversy this way: Islam asks its sons to die for Allah while the Christian God sent His Son to die for all mankind. This fundamental theological difference leads to two virtually polar world views.
Let me say at the outset that there are many Muslims who might not wish us ill. Although many Islamic fundamentalists in places like Iran and Syria clearly see themselves as our foe, Islamic “secularists” in parts of Iraq and elsewhere do not feel this way. So, I agree that not all of Islam is intent on doing us in. The problem is the doctrine of hostility toward “unbelievers” found in the Qur’an, itself.
It’s therefore vital that we wake up and realize that we are in a war with Islam by virtue of Islam’s own declarations and that if we fail to realize this inevitable fact, we will lose this war.
Liberals can say it’s not a “war,” but it is. According to the Department of Defense, as of July 20th, 2,557 Americans have died in Iraq at the hands (in most cases) of Islamic insurgents. These nearly 2,600 American soldiers, and the nearly 3,000 innocent Americans civilians who died on 9/11, are victims of Muslims who have taken upon themselves to enforce the violent decrees of Islam. The death toll of American lives can be expected to escalate in future years. Al-Qaeda and Islam will likely not cease and desist if their words are to be believed until millions of Americans, Christians, and Jews everywhere are murdered and swept away in a similar tide of violence. Make no fatal mistake, 9/11 was another overt act of infamy in our history.
By all appearances, we are witnessing the beginning of a second Holocaust. Will we idly stand by and allow this to happen?
Only Muslim extremists?
How can anyone say as some do that it’s only “Muslim extremists” who are killing Americans? The truth is, the peaceful Muslim who ignores the verses in the Qur’an that instruct “all Muslims to kill non-Muslims” is violating his religion just as surely as a Christian who refuses to treat others with Christ-like love, kindness, and respect is violating his. You can’t simply throw out portions of the Bible that you don’t like. Likewise, for a Muslim to disregard the “kill the infidel” verses in the Qur’an is to betray his god.
At least portions of the Qur’an would seem to confirm this comparison. A Muslim must either be a terrorist or a hypocrite a terrorist if he believes all that is in the Qur’an, or a hypocrite if he doesn’t. Make no mistake: Islam, according to the Qur’an, is a religion of the sword, and it seeks our demise by intimidation, coercion, and murder.
Just note the many hundreds of thousands of Muslims in dozens of countries who openly rejoiced and paraded on video as the Twin Towers fell. Muslims around the world rejoiced as thousands of Americans were crushed, trapped, burned alive, or as in the case of Flight 93, courageously died as they basically said, “We will take a stand and we will fight back!”
So I ask you, will we fight back in the face of growing threats to the safety and wellbeing of our country? I hope so.
Our professed enemy
In order to effectively win this unconventional and inconvenient war, of course, we must definitively discern who the enemy is. Because Islam is the avowed “religion of the sword” or more recently, of the bomb we must be wary of those who would lull us into ignoring this reality.
Clearly, by its own militant rhetoric, Islam is the professed enemy of the West. Jeff King, Director of www.Persecution.org and International Christian Concern, told me that:
“Western leaders are afraid to say we are at war with Islam for fear of inflaming the Islamic world. The truth is we are at war. In fact, Islam has been at war intermittently with the world since its founding. People need to wake up and realize that we have an enemy and that they are deadly-serious about bringing death and destruction to [our] doorstep.”
Indeed. He also said that 75% of all references to Jihad have to do with war, political control, the violent expansion of the Islamic religion, and the forced subjugation of the conquered. Take these two verses, for example:
Qur’an 8:12: “I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels: Strike off their heads. Strike off the very tips of their fingers.”
Qur’an 8:39: “Make war on them until idolatry shall cease and Allah’s religion shall reign supreme everywhere.”
That doesn’t sound peaceful to me. Does it sound peaceful to you? How can Islam be deemed “peaceful” with verses that say “strike off the heads” of all infidels’?
Mr. King is also of the opinion that much of this hatred toward the West resides within our Islamic “ally,” Saudi Arabia. Heaven help us if this is true.
And recently, just what group was it that rioted and burned over 9,000 cars in France? Were they all just Muslim “extremists”? No, they weren’t. By and large, they were average, everyday Muslims who have harbored a deep and long-held anger and hatred of the West and of Christianity and Judaism, even though France and much of Europe have long since departed to their shame from Christian and Judeo-Christian precepts.
The long-held idea that “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” is unfortunately true. We in the West must therefore unite, all other differences aside, against our apparent common enemy Islam.
This is not only a “war on terror.” It is partly that, of course but maybe it should be acknowledged as a “defensive” war against Islam, which long ago declared war on us, all of us, indiscriminately. Anything short of such a recognition of reality might possibly prove our undoing. This is a new type of war kind of like fighting a systemic bodily infection. Like a good doctor confronting a patient who has cancer cells throughout the body, we must correctly diagnose the problem and appropriately deal with it. Ignoring the widespread, dangerous threat is not an option.
We simply cannot fight a “politically correct” war that ignores the truth, as we apparently are doing, unless we don’t want to win. Do we want to win?
To slit the throat of innocent stewardesses and passengers on the planes in the air on 9/11, people who were doing nothing more than traveling and working to provide for their families, is just beyond the pale but this is what Islam apparently wants: the murder of non-Muslims. Their intent is apparently to achieve their goal of world domination in a murderous and violent way. Let the fruit of their actions judge them and their religion.
Qur’an 47:4: “When you meet the unbelievers in the Jihad strike off their heads and, when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly. Then grant them their freedom or take ransom from them, until War shall lay down her burdens.”
Record of events
I hope I’m wrong. I hope everything I’ve said about Islam is a misperception on my part. I would like to believe as many defenders of Islam claim that only extreme Muslim renegades pose a threat to America, not adherents to the Qur’an in general.
But I’m concerned about the record.
Consider some of the events inspired by Islamic religion and its violent history:
- Pan Am Flight 103 was blown out of the sky by Muslims in 1988.
- The U.S. Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, was bombed by Muslims, as was our military barracks in Saudi Arabia in 1996.
- Muslims also bombed the American Embassies in Africa in 1998.
- Muslims blew a hole in the side of the USS COLE.
- In 1972 at the Munich Olympics, Israeli athletes were kidnapped and massacred by Muslims.
- Now, in the Sudan, Islamic vigilante groups, with the express backing of the Sudanese government, are slaughtering Christians and are engaged in making other Christians slaves. This can be easily verified.
- Daniel Pearl, Paul Johnson, Nicholas Berg, Eugene Armstrong, and many others have had their throats cut or their heads slowly sawed off by whom? Muslims. I’ve seen some of the videos. Make no mistake about it: should you or members of your family fall into their hands, the same fate, or worse, could befall you.
- The years 622-632 A Jihad against idolatry among Arab tribes saw Islam conquer the tribes and Islam become the religion of the Arabs.
- 632-1097 A Jihad against Christians preceded the proclamation of the Crusades.
- 652 AD Middle East & North Africa were completely conquered by Muslims.
- 781 AD Ephesus and South Turkey were overrun by Muslims.
- 903 AD Most of Greece was conquered by Muslims.
- 1064 Georgia, Armenia, and Sicily were occupied by Muslims.
- 1453 Constantinople fell to Muslims.
- 1097-1574 A jihad during this period successfully defended most of the conquered territories, except in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and Greece.
- 1574-1681 This was an era of forced Islamic colonialism in Eastern Europe.
- 1681-1699 Jihad defeated in Vienna, Greece, and Hungary.
- 1973-1980’s Oil wealth increases the violent appetite for jihad. Massive funding began for worldwide terrorist training.
- 1980’s-to-the-present This is the most violent third wave of Jihad. Innocents are targeted.
Qur’an 5:33-34: “The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet and alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. Such will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an awful doom; save those who repent before ye overpower them….”
The above events and terrorist periods are not an exhaustive list. There have been many more such incidents, and more are planned. In event after event in recent times, it was Qur’an-quoting Muslims who initiated terribly violent and unprovoked attacks on America and her allies. I could almost understand it if these attacks were done against purely military targets, but they were not. The foremost example is obviously the two civilian World Trade Center attacks, as well as the many discotheques where innocent people have been blown up and murdered without any provocation by Muslim suicide bombers. Travelers at leisure are now legitimate targets according to Muslim theology. Leading Muslims may argue that these terrorists are an extremist fringe, but the Qur’an verses that I quoted seem to contradict that.
Why am I telling you all this? Partially because of my own study, but also because I was disturbed and yet energized by the fact-based movie “United 93.” If the film is still available in your area, I urge you to go see it. When the movie comes out on DVD Sept. 5, I encourage you to buy or rent it. You’ve got to see this film not only to inform yourself, but to honor all those who died without notice and yet courageously fought back.
United 93 is a very accurate movie. In fact, many of the people who played a role on that fateful day also play themselves in the movie. I ask you to forward this article to any and all of your friends, and ask them to do the same. Get the message out. If you haven’t seen the movie again, I urge you to see it.
Qur’an 9:5 “Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them captive, and besiege them and prepare for them each ambush.…”
A reasonable way to prove Islam’s peaceful intentions
It would be easy, of course, for followers of Islam to prove to the rest of the world that they mean us no harm, and that the harsh language in the Qur’an is not acceptable as a guide to Islamist action. All that’s needed is for Muslims to cease murdering non-Muslims in the name of religion!
That would pretty well put a stop to alleged misperceptions by Americans about the danger Islam poses to Western civilization.
Of course, this would require the leaders and clerics of Islam to rein in and disavow overzealous followers, rather than encourage them as many have done. But it could be done, if Muslim leaders genuinely wished to dispel wariness among Westerners toward Islam. All it would take is a concerted effort by Islamic leaders to defuse the Jihadist climate among militant Muslims. Any real, sustained, visible effort by Islamic leaders to do so would go a long way toward changing American perceptions of Islam.
Americans are a forgiving and understanding people. We would welcome a suspension of hostilities by those who’ve initiated a war of terror against us, and would gladly put past tensions behind us if the situation truly improved.
Is such a hope unfounded? I sincerely hope not. I hope Muslims mean us well, and are willing to prove it. But that is up to the world’s Islamic leadership to demonstrate.
