Unravelling The New World Order – July 2002
“The war we have joined is defined by three simple but brutal facts: Our enemy is able to penetrate our borders and strike us in our homes; he can strike us with weapons of mass destruction; and he has made clear [that] his intention is not to change our policies or to force our withdrawal, but to obliterate us and destroy our civilization.” –David Horowitz, “Know The Enemy,” FrontPageMagazine.com, June 25, 2002
Since September 11, we have heard all manner of explanations and rationalizations for why radical Muslims unleashed their vicious acts of war against the United States last September, completely destroying the World Trade Center, smashing into the pentagon and murdering more than 3,000 innocent people. Their goal was clear– as stated in their own communications, it was to kill as many Americans as possible, render huge material damage, do damage to the U.S. economy, strike fear into the hearts of Americans, and demoralize us to the point we would begin to falter as a nation. On all counts but the last, they were successful.
And, according to Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups, the WTC bombing was only one of many still planned. The question is, why would any group harbor a hatred so intense that they would expend incredible amounts of time and resources to plan and execute such vicious attacks? And why are Palestinian mothers eager to send their children to their deaths with “suicide packs” wrapped around their bodies?
Every military strategist knows that the first axiom of successful warfare is know your enemy. One of our chief problems in understanding how this war of terrorism was suddenly thrust upon us is that we do not know our enemy. To a large extent, we are fighting in the dark. There is a lot of out-and-out nonsense being mouthed in our media about what motivates the terrorists. One of the first things we need to do is get the nonsense out of the way and figure out what really motivates fundamentalist Muslims. Otherwise, we are going to get mired down in attempts to “negotiate” with an enemy who has no interest in compromise of any kind. This is a war in which our enemy recognizes no international conventions of war, does not take captives–other than to brutally murder them for political capital–and believes that the bloody carnage he unleashes is holy war. No conventions, no captives, no compromise.
Following are some of the rationalizations we are hearing for the brutality that radical Islamics have perpetrated against the U.S. and its interests over the last few years–especially on September 11.
Poverty, social injustice
According to Cherie Blair, wife of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, the
Palestinian youth have so little hope that they blow themselves up to make a political
statement. In her words, “As long as young people feel they have got no hope but to
blow themselves up you are never going to make progress.”
It’s the same foolishness we have been hearing from the left on the cable talk shows, the same propaganda heard from the mouths of liberal European apostles of appeasement and from the mouths of spokesman for terrorists organizations worldwide.
Interestingly, that simple “rationale” ignores what the actual combatants say about themselves and their motivation. An interview given to the Arab press by a mother of a suicide bomber named Muhammad says nothing whatever about root causes such as poverty, thwarted national desires or “social injustice.”
This mother said, in part:
“Because I love my son, I encouraged him to die a martyr’s death for the sake of Allah . . . Jihad is a religious obligation incumbent upon us, and we must carry it out. I sacrificed Muhammad as part of my obligation. This is an easy thing. There is no disagreement [among scholars] on such matters . . . I prayed from the depths of my heart that Allah would cause the success of his operation. . . and Allah granted my request . . . “
Want to know a little more about the “martyr’s death” this mother prayed for her son to have?
Wesley Pruden, writing for The Washington Times, tells of Rosie DiManno, a columnist for the Toronto Star who had earlier been a sympathizer with the Palestinian cause. After talking to several physicists to get an idea of exactly what a suicide bomb does when a Hero of the Intifada pulls the trigger, vaporizing himself with no pain but delivering a hideous agony to his victims, DiManno wrote:
The force of the blast is determined by the quantity of the explosive. An average bomb–the kind strapped around a suicide terrorist’s waist, covered by a shirt–would likely detonate at a rate of about 28,000 feet per second–or about 22 times faster than a 9 mm bullet leaving the muzzle of a handgun. That means the surrounding air pressure–normally 15 pounds per square inch–would spike to 2,200 pounds per square inch. Such heat and pressure will melt iron. A person sitting nearby would feel, momentarily, a shock wave slamming into his or her body with an over-pressure of 300,000 pounds. Such a blast would crush the chest, rupture liver, spleen, heart and lungs, melt eyes, pull organs away from surrounding tissue, separate hands from arms and feet from legs. Bodies would fly through the air or be impaled on the jagged edges of crumpled metal and broken glass.
There’s more. Those with strong stomachs may wish to read the entire article in the June 24-30 edition of The Washington Times.
To use Pruden’s words, This is not the result of a gruesome accident, awful as that would be, but the calculated evil of men who have recruited children to kill other children.
There are many who believe that the Muslim world hates America because it doesn’t
really know us–that if only those misguided Muslims could spend time with us, they’d
forget their Great Satan ideas and we’d all be friends.
Among those who buy that foolishness, apparently, is Senator Ted Kennedy. He and a bipartisan group of similarly misguided elites want to spend nearly $100 million over the next five years to give Muslim high school students from overseas a year of study in the United States.
Right. Ten million visa holders arrive in the U.S. every year. Given the fact that the U.S. government can’t keep track of all the foreign students already studying here, why would we want to subsidize the importation of thousands more while we are engaged in a war on Islamic terrorists?
Teddy’s brainchild is the Cultural Bridges Act of 2002, now before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Twenty million of our taxpayer dollars would go to the State Department each year for the purpose of establishing a new exchange program that would allow Muslim students to live with American host families while they attend public high schools and “participate in activities designed to promote a greater understanding of American and Islamic values and culture.”
Those eligible to participate would be students from the 57 member states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference. And note this: Official Islamic terrorist states–Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, and Sudan–are not specifically excluded by the legislation.
Other than the fact that such an idea is outrageous on its face, there are experts in the area of Middle Eastern culture who think it is unworkable anyway. Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum, states that the record shows over and over again that Muslims who come to the West turn against it in reliably significant numbers. Pipes cites the archetype, Sayyid Qutb, who was sent here by the Egyptian government from 1948 to 1951 as part of a program to study the American education system. Qutb saw America as “Babylon, a cesspool of irreligious, racist degenerates who didn’t know how to put women in their place.” Very revealing. In his travelogue, “The America That I Saw,” Qutb exhorted Muslims to hate America, saying, “the believer from his height looks down at the people drowning in dirt and mud.”
Qutb had roughly three years to “get to know us”; and as we see from his scathing denunciation of America, his is not exactly a case for increased “cultural understanding.” So, how can we expect a single year abroad to overcome a lifetime of anti-American indoctrination?
A shocking report recently aired by National Public Radio revealed intense hatred of the U.S. among Palestinians living in northern Virginia suburbs, demonstrating that even growing up in this culture cannot wean some from radical Islamic influences of blind hatred and obsession with death.
Linda Chavez, writing about the NPR report, said, “These Palestinian Americans are expressing views one doesn’t expect to find outside the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade or among its sympathizers. . . . And they are a reflection of our new multicultural America, (our emphasis) where young people are taught that one’s allegiance to one’s ethnic group takes precedence over allegiance to the United States or adherence to democratic values. These young people may have been born in the United States, but they are Palestinians first and foremost.”
Islamic terrorism is an anomaly
The fact is, the death wish of homicide bombers is not limited to the martyrs who blow up
little children in the Middle East; it is a shared value of the worldwide community of
radical Islam. And, contrary to the nonsense that western liberals are fond of espousing,
it comes not from despair, but from a hope of heaven–a desire to enlarge the territory of
Islam by doing Allah’s will.
David Horowitz points out that this “hope for heaven” that drives suicide bombers and World Trade Center bombers is of the same stripe as the fanatical inspiration that caused Lenin and Stalin and Pol Pot to kill tens of millions of innocent “unbelievers” who stood in the way of their implementing a socialist utopia during the 20th century. It is the same misguided faith, he adds, that causes fellow travelers like Ted Turner to support the agenda of America’s enemies.
A Struggle for World Rule
A new Al Qaeda manifesto, “Why We Fight America,” makes the terrorists’ objectives very clear. The statement was issued by Al Qaeda spokesman Suleiman Abu Gheith and published on an Al Qaeda website hosted by the Center for Islamic Research and Studies. The statement begins by asking why the world is surprised by what happened on 9/11, then it supplies Al Qaeda’s answer:
“What happened to America is something natural, an expected event for a country that uses terror, arrogant policy, and suppression against the nations and the peoples, and imposes a single method, thought, and way of life, as if the people of the entire world are clerks in its government offices and employed by its commercial companies and institutions.”
The Al Qaeda statement emphasizes that such “oppression” inspires righteous rage against the “oppressor,” and this righteous indignation is what Al Qaeda’s war is about.
“. . . he [the Muslim] knows that his nation was created to stand at the center of leadership, at the center of hegemony and rule, at the center of ability and sacrifice . . . he knows that the divine rule is that the entire earth must be subject to the religion of Allah . . . to no ideology and to no path except the path of Allah . . . “
Clearly, this is not a war about land in the Middle East or the structure of a Palestinian state (as some naively believe), nor is it a military issue about U.S. military presence on the Saudi peninsula. It is a war about world rule. It parallels the Cold War struggle wherein the Communists viewed America as standing in the way of their envisioned socialist paradise–a heaven on earth where racism, sexism, and economic inequality would disappear forever. In the same way, radical Muslims believe that America–the Great Satan–is standing in the way of Islamic world rule and must therefore be utterly destroyed.
Are we beginning to get it? Our enemies hate us for who we are. They hate us because we are a freedom-loving people; we are democratic, tolerant, and–in the eyes of Islam‑‑ “unbelieving.” They hate us because we are Christians–because we are Hindus and Buddhists–because we are secularists and Jews. To make a long explanation short–they hate us because we are not Muslims. The energy that drives them is pure, blind hatred.
Enemies at Home
There are those who still do not accept the fact that we are at war with radical Islam.
Worse yet, there are leftists and terrorist sympathizers, even among American citizens, whose intent is to bring about the destruction of their own country. They eagerly defend the so-called “rights” of terrorists who have attacked America and murdered her citizens.
The first terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in 1993 was led by a Muslim known as the “blind sheik.” In that attack, six people were killed and 1,000 injured. Attorney Lynne Stewart, a veteran of the radical left, represented the blind sheik. She is associated with the Center for Constitutional Rights and has supported communist causes and Arab terrorists for her entire professional life.
Recently, Attorney General Ashcroft indicted Ms. Stewart for helping the blind sheik, now in prison, to communicate with his terrorist followers in the Middle East in order to continue their bloody terrorist agenda. Immediately, a chorus from the left attacked Ashcroft for “infringing on the civil liberties” of the imprisoned terrorist–and of his lawyer, as well. Stewart has been defended by the left-wing National Lawyers Guild, the ACLU, The Nation, and other institutions of the radical left.
In 1995, Ms. Stewart suggested in an interview with the New York Times that violence and revolution were sometimes necessary to “right the economic and racial wrongs of America’s capitalist system.” Ms. Stewart stated, “I don’t believe in anarchistic violence, but in directed violence. That would be violence directed at the institutions which perpetuate capitalism, racism, and sexism, and the people who are the appointed guardians of those institutions, and accompanied by popular support.”
The World Trade Center was, for the left, and for Muslim terrorists worldwide, the symbol of capitalism. These revolutionaries refuse to see in America–or in our capitalistic system–the benefits of freedom and opportunity; instead, they see in this nation only what the Islamics call Dar Al-Harb, the “world of darkness.” According to leftists like Lynne Stewart and spokesmen for the Al Qaeda, the people who dwell in Dar Al-Harb and support its “profane agendas” deserve to die.
The following portion of a letter the FBI says was left by hijackers of three of the four doomed September 11 flights illustrates the religious mindset of an Islamic terrorist:
“This will be the hour. Then ask God Most High as He said in His Book: “Our Lord, pour constancy on us and make our steps firm, help us against those that reject faith. . . . Our Lord, forgive us our sins, and anything we may have done that transgressed our duty. Establish our feet firmly, and help us against those that resist faith“ (our emphasis).
This is what the present “war on terrorism” is all about. As we begin to understand the enemy, it becomes clear that terrorism is not rooted in poverty, oppression, social injustice, or cultural misunderstanding, as the well-financed Islamic PR machine would have us believe.
In the eyes of Islam, the West is decadent and Christians and Jews are enemies of God who must be eradicated completely. How do you make peace when your enemy thinks like this? It would require a radical religious and cultural revolution for them to think differently; the next generation of children would have to be taught something other than martyrdom, and the current generation would have to stop seeing Israel and America as enemies of God and targets for destruction.
Anyone who has read what the Koran teaches about martyrdom and about Christians and Jews would have to ask: What are the odds of that happening?
